Just Ask A Paralegal — California Family Law Document Preparation

Affordable document preparation for uncontested divorce, parentage, child custody, visitation, and child support matters — designed to make the process feel organized, approachable, and less overwhelming.

At Just Ask A Paralegal, we are here to help you navigate the paperwork process for uncontested family law matters with greater confidence and understanding. We provide affordable document preparation assistance for divorces, parentage matters, child custody, visitation, and child support cases. Our goal is to help self-represented individuals properly prepare the required court forms while making the process feel more organized, approachable, and less overwhelming.

My name is Monica Johnson and I started Just Ask A Paralegal because I've seen firsthand how overwhelming and confusing the California family law system can be for people trying to handle their own cases. I've spent more than 15 years working in family law as a paralegal — with Sacramento County Superior Court's Family Law Facilitator's Office, with WEAVE Legal assisting survivors of domestic violence, with the Department of Child Support Services, and with private family law firms across Sacramento and the Bay Area.

I've developed a strong understanding of the court process and the extensive Judicial Council forms required from the beginning of a case through final judgment. Family law cases are highly form-driven and procedural, and many people struggle not because they lack intelligence, but because they do not fully understand the multiple form packets, filing requirements, or court procedures involved.

Throughout my career I've also developed and presented educational workshops for self-represented parties — teaching how to properly complete forms, understand filing and service requirements, organize financial disclosures, and avoid common mistakes that could delay a case.

I created Just Ask A Paralegal to offer document preparation to individuals who need this specific service, and to continue providing information and educational support through resources and free step-by-step videos on some of the more common yet important forms — like completing your Proof of Service of Summons correctly, or requesting a fee waiver.

Many family law attorneys require retainers of $5,000 or more just to begin representation. My goal is to simplify the process, prepare your forms for you, reduce confusion, and help you feel more informed and confident as you move through one of the most important legal situations of your life.

Thank you for choosing Just Ask A Paralegal.
